New Scientist Instant Expert: The Quantum World

I had so much fun talking at the New Scientist Instant Expert event in Bristol at We The Curious. The topic was The Quantum World. I spoke about giant quantum objects! The other speakers were:

  • Johnjoe McFadden, professor of molecular genetics at the University of Surrey will talk about the idea that evolution may have harnessed the strange characteristics of quantum theory and put them to work in very practical ways

  • Tony Short, senior lecturer at the University of Bristol talking about his work as a theorist is leading to a deeper understanding of quantum theory and powerful new concepts that can be applied to fundamental physics

  • Vera Schäfer, postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Physics at the University of Oxford will be talking about quantum computing

  • Mike Blake, mathematical physicist at the University of Bristol

  • Euan Allen, research fellow at the University of Bristol
